From Probate to Family Home: A Personal Renovation Journey
Challenge:
Transform a narrow, outdated house purchased through probate, requiring extensive architectural and building work, into a bright, functional four-bedroom family home. The project was made more complex by a tight timeline, the challenges of COVID, and navigating the chaos of disrupted supply chains.
Overall Vision:
Create a stylish, character-filled home that perfectly accommodates family life. The vision was to reimagine the space, introducing open-plan living, clever storage, and seamless indoor-outdoor flow, while overcoming the practical challenges of a growing family and a home in need of major renovation.

Our journey began when my family and I purchased a three-bed house through probate, untouched for decades. We moved in just before our second child was born, mere months before COVID hit—teaching us invaluable lessons in project management as supply chains were thrown into chaos.
The house was small, dark, and outdated, but we had a vision: to create a bright, functional, and stylish four-bedroom family home that truly worked for us.
The project required extensive architectural and building work to reimagine the space. Below are just a few of the challenges we tackled. There was so much more involved in the project (including full electrical rewire, modernised plumbing, insulation to name a few!).

We started with a narrow, outdated house - rooms branching off a long, dark corridor with no flow or connection.
Vision
To create a modern, character-filled family home with open-plan living, plenty of light, and space that truly worked for us.
Process

It all began with a conversation about our vision for our new home - how it needed to function for our family's daily needs and how we wanted the space to make us feel.

I brought in an architect to rework the layout and plan an extension, then managed a brilliant team of tradesmen - builders, electricians, plumbers, tilers, carpenters, decorators - making sure everything ran smoothly.

The result? A space that’s not just functional but feels like home.
kitchen
challenge
A small, pokey kitchen that felt cramped and cut off from the rest of the home.
Vision
To open things up and create a spacious, multifunctional kitchen-diner - perfect for family meals and entertaining friends.
Process
I designed a smart, efficient layout to make the most of every inch, sourced beautiful yet practical materials, and worked closely with a talented carpenter to create bespoke cabinetry that fits the space (and our lives) perfectly.
bathrooms
challenge
One-and-a-half awkward, impractical bathrooms - totally unfit for the needs of a growing family of four.
Vision
To create stylish, luxurious spaces that felt calming, practical, and a little indulgent - somewhere to truly unwind.
Process
I reimagined the layout to include a spacious family bathroom, a serene en suite, and a beautiful downstairs shower room - perfect for guests and muddy kids (or dogs!) coming in from the garden.
storage solutions

A constant battle with clutter - nowhere near enough storage for busy family life.
Vision
To create clever, bespoke solutions that looked great and made everyday living feel effortless.
Process
I designed tailor-made storage throughout the home, including built-in wardrobes, open shelving, a dedicated coat zone, and even a custom bar in the kitchen for a little grown-up joy.
indoor / outdoor living
challenge
An outdated, disconnected outdoor space - including a pool house that wasn’t living up to its potential.
Vision
To create a seamless indoor-outdoor social hub with space to entertain, relax, and let the kids run free.
Process
I opened up the garden by removing the wall around the pool and levelling the lawn to create better flow. The pool house got a full makeover too - now a stylish and functional home office that still feels connected to the garden.

Stepping into our fully renovated home was an incredible feeling - every detail carefully considered, every challenge thoughtfully overcome, all coming together beautifully. The space now reflects our style, comfort, and daily needs. Natural light floods the home, while a carefully curated colour palette and tactile materials create warmth and personality.
I even carved out my own little reading snug - a cosy retreat where I can steal moments of peace with a book and a cup of tea.
